IT Junior Database Administrator, Information Technology

Unison Software, Inc., a software product and services company in Dulles, VA, seeks a Junior to midlevel Database Administrator to deliver operational excellence for multiple databases across the organization.  For over 30 years, Unison has been the leading provider of Acquisition and Grant Management software products to Civilian, DoD, and Intel agencies in the Federal Government, and to the Federal contractor community.  In addition, Unison has a thriving hosting and SaaS business for its software products

• Monitor database performance, conduct regular performance tuning, and optimize queries for maximum efficiency.
• Create and monitor database backup/recovery using standard tools and techniques, such as Oracle RMAN, Flashback, Restore point, etc.
• Install, maintain and administer Oracle databases running on Red Hat Enterprise (RHEL)

• Operate Oracle databases including performance of maintenance, patching, replication, and disaster recovery tests.
• Perform ongoing support and other specific database administration duties as defined in working practices.
• Knowledge of Windows, UNIX/Linux, Ansible, Chef scripting experience.
• Able to work with replication tools such as Data Guard and/or 3rd party tools i.e Dbvisit.

Hands-on experience migrating/cloning database using utilities such as data pump export/import.

Experience, Skills, and Abilities

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or equivalent work experience
• Practical knowledge of database management systems, such as Microsoft SQL Server, ETL Oracle and MySQL.
• Proficiency in writing complex SQL queries and optimizing database performance.
• Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills required   
• Strong enthusiasm and desire to learn
• Knowledge of Linux, Cloud (AWS and Azure), network technologies (LAN/WAN, DNS, TCP/IP) and Active Directory is a plus
• Work experience as a Junior Data Base Administrator is a plus
• Knowledge and understanding of consistent/inconsistent and logical backups is a plus.
